Our Chapter

100 Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton was formed in June 2017.  Our goal is to bring together 100 (or more) women to raise awareness of, and contribute to, registered charitable organizations located in Richmond, Inverness, and Victoria Counties. With all the charitable organizations located in these three counties, it is difficult to give them all the attention they deserve but let's take it one step at a time and know that we can make a huge difference. These charitable organizations make our counties a better, healthier, happier, and stronger place to live.

Our Expectations

  • Bring together 100 (or more) women in the three counties of Richmond, Inverness and Victoria who care about local community causes and who are committed to community service.

  • Meet once a year for a two hour event.

  • Jointly select a local registered charity from three randomly chosen which were nominated ahead of time by members. Deadline for nominations for 2024 is midnight, August 31, 2024.

  • Each member will write a $100 cheque to the winning organization (or cash) and watch how the group’s commitment turns into a $10,000+ donation. Bring a self-addressed envelope the night of the event, or an envelope will be provided to you at that time.

  • If you are unable to attend a meeting you are still committed to contributing your $100. It is important to provide this prior to the meeting so the donation can be awarded that evening. Part of the excitement is being able to award the donation that evening and take a photo for our use in the media.

  • If you wish to remove your name from 100 Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton membership, please send an email to 100womenruralcapebreton@gmail.com

  • With one meeting per year, witness how $10,000+ can improve the lives of our neighbours when placed in the hands of well-deserving organizations working to serve the local community.

 Is This Right For You?

  • Are you committed to helping others in our community but are stretched for time?

  • Do you want to be part of a powerful group of women making an immediate, direct and positive effect on the lives of our neighbours?

  • Do you want 100% of your donations to go directly to a local registered charity?

  • Do you want to learn more about the many worthy community service programs and organizations serving Cape Bretoners living in Richmond, Inverness, and Victoria Counties?

If your answer to all of these questions is YES, then register to be a member by filling in and submitting the membership form on the GET INVOLVED page!

The first 100 Women Who Care group was formed in November 2006 by Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan, USA. At their first one-hour meeting, the Jackson 100 Women Who Care group raised $10,000 to buy new baby cribs for an organization in their city! Their membership has now grown to nearly 300 members and other cities across Canada and the United States are forming groups.
