Information for Charities
Are you a charity located in Richmond, Inverness, or Victoria counties who would like to be considered for a donation? Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/100womenruralcapebreton or visit our website https://www.100womenruralcapebreton.com. We are committed to sharing information about charities in our area and raising awareness.
Only members of 100 Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton are eligible to nominate a charity. So if you know someone who is a member, or you want to become a member and nominate your organization, please do so. In order to be considered at a meeting, the charity must abide by the following:
Be located and based in one of the tri-counties (Richmond, Inverness, or Victoria), and if awarded the proceeds from the event, must spend this money in any one, or all, of the counties represented.
Must be a registered charity in good standing with Canada Revenue Agency and able to provide tax receipts for donations.
The $10,000+ award must be used in one of the 3 counties listed and cannot be used for travel or administrative costs.
The charitable organization must be previously established for at least 1 year (no start-ups).
No national or international charities, programs or organizations will be considered at this time as the current focus is on contributing to our local community.
A charity that is selected for the group donation will not be considered again for 5 years.
If you have been chosen to present but not awarded, your name will go back in the draw automatically for the next year.
Members nominate a charitable organization when they submit their Membership Commitment Form.
Deadline for nominations for charities is midnight, August 31, 2024.
Nominated organizations are chosen at a random draw prior to the event.
This will be kept a secret from the membership until the night of the meeting. If it becomes public knowledge we must withdraw your charity until the following year.
Representatives are asked to make a 5 minute presentation (timed) at the meeting and members vote. No power point or props are permitted for the presentation. We allow 2 presenters per charitable organization.
The charitable organization with the greatest amount of votes is the recipient of the funds and is removed from the selection process for the following 5 years.
We will have two chartered accountants on hand to count and check the votes.
The charitable organization agrees to not database our members and agrees to not contact them in the future for donations directly related to giving through 100 Women Who Care Rural Cape Breton. They are encouraged to provide a one time thank you which may be included with your income tax receipt.
If the organization is one of the final three charities picked at the random draw, the charity must declare in their presentation the projected cost of the project which must be valued at $10,000 or more.
An awarded charity agrees to return the following year to give an update on how the donation is being used to benefit our community.
